From Detroit Metro, follow the Detroit-area freeway network to I-75 north. Frankenmuth is well beyond the airport suburbs, so leave the arrival evening for check-in, dinner, and one short village walk.
Lansing approaches from the southwest; Grand Rapids requires a longer cross-state drive. Both work better with a two-night stay than a rushed same-day outing.
Bishop International in Flint and MBS International near Saginaw are the closest commercial-airport options to compare. Confirm schedules and rental-car availability before choosing either.
The visitor bureau directs northbound drivers onto Birch Run Road for roughly 3 miles, then left on M-83/Gera Road for roughly 4 miles to Frankenmuth. Birch Run Premium Outlets remains a separate stop, not part of the village core.
Southbound drivers can use the Bridgeport/Frankenmuth exit, follow Dixie Highway roughly 2.5 miles, then turn onto Junction Road for roughly 4 miles. Junction becomes Genesee Street at Frankenmuth’s western city limit.
